C17200 Beryllium Copper

c17200 beryllium copper is a versatile copper alloy used for its strength, durability, corrosion resistance and electrical conductivity.c17200 beryllium copper It is commonly used in automotive components, marine applications, non-sparking safety tools, oil field drill bushings, electrical switch and relay blades, bellows, diaphragms, and heavy equipment wear plates. Its ductility and weldability in metalworking make it ideal for use in spring connectors, current carrying and fuse clips, belleville washers, anchor bolts, contact bridges, and electrical switch and relay parts.

Also known as beryllium bronze, cube or BeCu, this is the most popular copper beryllium alloy.c17200 beryllium copper It contains 1.8-2% beryllium and offers the highest level of strength and hardness in the commercial copper beryllium family. Other notable properties include tensile and fatigue strengths, superior creep strength, and a high level of resistance to corrosion in harsh environments including chloride stress corrosion cracking and sulphide etching.

It is able to be formed, welded, and machined using standard techniques. It is suitable for soldering, brazing, and gas-shielded arc welding. However, oxyacetylene welding is not recommended for this material as it will significantly weaken its toughness. This alloy is capable of being age hardened to enhance its mechanical properties such as corrosion resistance, fatigue strength and abrasive wear.

In its annealed condition, this alloy has good cold forming and welding properties. However, severe bending is not feasible unless the alloy is heat treated or in a hard temper. It is capable of being cold-formed into a variety of shapes and sizes. It can be rolled, drawn, extruded, drawn and forged into tubing, rod, bar and sheet.

The most common temper of c17200 beryllium copper has an ultimate tensile strength of around 200 ksi and a Rockwell hardness of around RC 45. However, it can be conditioned into other tempers that provide different levels of strength and toughness for specific applications.

This alloy is nonmagnetic and resists corrosion in a wide range of environments and conditions, such as seawater, salt, and down-hole drilling fluids. It can also withstand stress corrosion cracking caused by sulphide and carbon dioxide and is not susceptible to hydrogen embrittlement. Due to the health hazards of beryllium, this material should only be handled by experienced professionals. The inhalation of dust, mist or fumes containing beryllium can lead to chronic beryllium disease that restricts the exchange of oxygen in the lungs. To minimize this risk, only work on c17200 beryllium copper with proper ventilation.
