The alloy is not normally heat treated in solution, but artificial aging can be applied to achieve peak strength. This involves heating the component to a temperature between 250 and 500 °C for several hours before quenching. The cooling rate should be carefully adjusted to minimize distortion and stresses, and subsequent precipitation hardening can further enhance strength.
