6061 Aluminum Tube

6061 aluminum tube is a round hollow extruded aluminum product that is often used in fabrication projects where strength along with lightweight and corrosion resistance are primary concerns.6061 aluminum tube This material can be welded and brazed, and is available in several tempers to meet the requirements of your project.

6061 is one of the most versatile heat-treatable alloys for general purpose use. It contains magnesium and silicon as the major alloying elements, with traces of copper, chromium, iron, zinc, manganese, and titanium. Originally called Alloy 61s, this precipitation hardening alloy was developed in 1935 and is now one of the most commonly available extruded aluminum products.

This material has good workability, is a good choice for welding, and can be worked to high tolerances with machining tools. This makes it ideal for making aluminum bicycle frames. It can also be fabricated into a wide variety of other types of parts and structures.

While the 6061 aluminum alloy is not as strong as some of the higher-grade materials, it still offers a very high strength to weight ratio. This means that it can be used in applications where space is at a premium and weight is important, such as car suspension components.

In addition to its excellent strength, this material is highly corrosion resistant, both in air and marine environments. It also has good machinability, meaning that it can be turned easily and has excellent finish qualities. It is also easy to weld, especially using tungsten inert gas (TIG) or metal inert gas welding (MIG). The aluminum alloy does not have the same level of conductivity as some of the more modern grades of aluminium, but it can be re-heat-treated and artificially aged to restore most of its properties after welding.

In order to get the best results when working with this type of alloy, it is recommended that you choose a grade that is at least tempered to T6. This is the highest temper that will retain sufficient strength after welding, and will offer the greatest level of corrosion resistance. If you do not want to wait to have the part artificially aged, then the annealed (phase O) state of the material will also provide acceptable properties for most applications.
