If you have ever unwrapped a stick of gum or looked at the bottom of an old paper-in-oil capacitor, you will see that it has long strips of very thin aluminum foil. This foil is annealed to about 5 to 5.5 micron thick, which is ideal for making ribbon microphone diaphragms and tweeter domes. Interestingly, steel could be made to be very similar to aluminum foil, but it would have to be rolled extremely thin, which is impossible without squeezing out elements like carbon.
Mingtai Aluminum has 8011-H18 aluminum foil in stock, which is commonly used for making easy-tear tea lids. This alloy is soft, moisture resistant, and has excellent corrosion resistance.
