Quick chooser (by medium & temperature)

Seawater / Brine / Chlorides (–196 °C to 300 °C) → Monel 400
Pumps, heat-exchanger piping, crude-distillation desalters, offshore utility lines. Low corrosion in seawater and HF (dry). Good mechanicals at cryogenic temps.
Mixed acids / Chlorides + H₂S / Sour service (up to ~400 °C) → Hastelloy C276 (C-276)
Pickling lines, SCR scrubbers, chlorination systems, phosphoric/acetic acid units, waste incineration quench. Handles crevice/pitting in chlorides; resistant to wet chlorine and hypochlorite.

High-temperature oxidation air/furnace atmospheres (up to ~1150 °C) → Inconel 601
Furnace tubes, radiant-heater pipes, annealing fixtures; excellent oxidation and spalling resistance.

Strong corrosion + high strength (–196 °C to 600 °C) → Inconel 625
Flue-gas desulfurization, seawater injection/risers, acidic gas service, flare systems. Great pitting/crevice resistance; weldable.

High strength under pressure/temperature cycling (–253 °C to ~650 °C) → Inconel 718
Cryogenic transfer lines, high-pressure manifolds, turbine/engine support piping where creep-fatigue strength matters.

Highly caustic / Alkali production / Electrical & hydrogen environments → Pure Nickel (e.g., Ni 200/201)

Caustic soda evaporation, hydrogenation reactors, battery/chemical feed lines; high thermal/electrical conductivity.
